Hey readers! I thought I would attempt a fun challenge today and write a short story with characters, setting, and conflict using only dialogue... It was definitely an interesting experience. I hope you have as much fun reading it as I did writing it!
“Do you feel that?”
“Feel what?”
“It’s cold.”
“Now that you mention it…”
“I don’t like this. I want to go home.”
“Like that’s happening anytime soon.”
“You don’t have to be sarcastic!”
“I’m always sarcastic! You can’t suddenly expect me not to be!”
“Well, I am officially suddenly expecting you not to be!”
“I literally just told you not to suddenly expect me not to be.”
‘Well, it wasn’t sudden. You should have been expecting it.”
“I wasn’t.”
“That’s your problem.”
“Now, look who’s being sassy.”
“I said you were being sarcastic, not sassy.”
“Same thing.”
“Um, no it’s not.”
“Um, yes it is.”
“Um, you’re wrong.”
“Um, why are we saying ‘um’ before the actual sentence?”
“Um, I don’t know, because we want to.”
“Um, we need to stop.”
“Um, no way. You can Wimpy, but um going to keep going.”
“Um, did you just say ‘um’ instead of ‘I’m’? Also, I’m not wimpy.”
“Um, yes you are.”
“Um, no I’m not.”
“Um, yes you are.”
“Um, no I’m not.”
“Um… I want to go home.”
“Great idea! Why don’t we just pick up these boulders the size of horses and go home!”
“I thought I told you to stop being sarcastic!”
“And I thought I told you no!”
“You are impossible!”
“Impossible? More like…”
“Don’t say it.”
“Why?”
“Because if you do, I will hate you more than I already do. Which is a lot.”
“Why should I care?”
“Because there are sharp rocks and no witnesses.”
“Fine. But am I not-”
“Don’t.”
“Fiiiiiiiiiiine.”
“Now, let’s figure out a way out of here.”
“Why do you want to go home so badly?”
“Why don’t you?”
“I asked you first.”
“Yeah, well…”
“Uh-huh”
“Ugh. I miss home and mom and, you know, our sister that you ditched.”
“I didn’t ditch her!”
“You ditched her just like you ditched me!”
“I didn’t ditch you either!”
“Yes, you did!”
“Hello! You’re here with me! I so did not ditch you.”
“And it’s your fault that we’re trapped in this cave.”
“No, it’s not.”
“Yes, it is.”
“You can’t blame me for both things. You have to choose one.”
“Why can’t I blame you for both things?”
“It’s like you said… There are sharp rocks and no witnesses.”
“How long do you think we’ll be stuck down here before we murder each other?
“I don’t know, like an hour?”
“How long has it been?”
“Sorry, I left my watch above ground with the trolls.”
“Again with the sarcasm?”
“Hey, I told you I couldn’t stop.”
“You haven’t even tried.”
“True, but do you really want to see me try?”
“Yes.”
“Too bad, cause I’m not.”
“You’re so stubborn and annoying.”
“Thank you.”
“It wasn’t a compliment.”
“It is now.”
“I said it. I think I would know.”
“And I took it. I think I would know.”
“I think an hour is a bit too long.”
“Agreed. Should we shorten it to forty-five minutes?”
“I don’t really know…”
“Guess we’ll find out eventually.”
“Do you think we’ll ever get out of here?”
“Not if we murder each other first.”
“There’s a tunnel over there.”
“I’m going to go see what’s down it.”
“What? But you don’t know what’s down there.”
“Exactly. There could be an exit.”
“Or a hungry human-eating monster.”
“I hope there is.”
“You’re going to eat those words.”
“Am I?”
“Are you kidding? Of course you will.”
“We’ll see. I mean, if the monster doesn’t kill me first then you will.”
“Wait, you’re leaving me?”
“Oh. You didn’t seem like you wanted to go so I assumed you were staying here.”
“I don’t want to go down the tunnel, but I don’t want to be left alone either.”
“I’m going down the tunnel so…”
“All right, all right, I’m coming.”
“I knew you would.”
“Shut up.”
I enjoyed this!!
