As the Battle Rages

As I'm sure you've noticed by now, I absolutely love poetry. I also really love experimenting with all the different types of poetry. One type that I had a lot of fun with a while back was the acrostic poem. I loved putting hidden messages into the acrostic, like I did with this poem. This poem was meant to be written from the POV of the husband of the main character of one of my stories to the main character, even though I don't think he writes poetry, at the time of the end of part one of the story. I hope you like it!
As The Battle Rages
“Vainly we fight, in vain we die."
Inside I hear those whispers too
Courage, love, remember why
This battle rages, what we must do
Oh, let the fearful voices fly
Rest in the truth that's carried us through
You remember, love, the One who holds all life.
In this darkest night, a star shines bright
Stories aren't over just because all is night
Never doubt your place in this tale
Or hear the lies that scream inside
The God who ordained all shall not fail
Fear not, though night has fallen fast
Although it's dark a dawn will come
Remember that this war will never last
Death has come to many and to more
Eternal victory awaits beyond
And though now our paths in this war
Rend apart, do not weep long
Let me go, dear, let me do my part
One day we’ll meet again, I promise,
Victory we seek, and victory we’ll find
Either in this life, or eternity beyond us
Well cover me in cream and call me a custard- THAT was some high level poetry right there
