Save One Drop One Challenge

Hey readers! Today I am doing the Save One Drop One Challenge! If you don’t know what this is, it is a challenge where two book characters are randomly selected and you have to choose to “save” one and “drop” one. I think I saw it done by a booktuber on YouTube at some point... Anyway, I have chosen twenty-six characters for this, so let’s see who will be saved and who will be dropped.

Round One

Artemis Fowl (Artemis Fowl) VS Daisy (Brightwood)

Okay… this is already super hard! I doubt many of you know who Daisy is (she’s not from a very popular book) but she is an interesting character. Thing is, so is Artemis Fowl. I may be slightly biased because I just read a book from the Artemis Fowl series, and it’s been over a year since I last read Brightwood, but I am going to save Artemis and drop Daisy. I’m sorry Daisy I love you!

Round Two

Ella (Ella Enchanted) VS Qibli (Wings of Fire)

I love both of these characters so much, but I don’t even have to think about who I’m going to choose. I read both of these books in my middle school years. At the time Ella Enchanted was my favorite standalone book, and Wings of Fire was my favorite book series. Within the Wings of Fire series, Qibli was one of my most favorite characters. Serena and I loved him. So, I’m dropping Ella and saving Qibli.

Round Three

Mulch Diggums (Artemis Fowl) VS Haymitch (The Hunger Games)

This is an easy one for me. I liked Haymitch in The Hunger Games, but I wouldn’t say he was one of my favorite characters. Mulch on the other hand, is by far my most favorite character of the Artemis Fowl series. I’m saving Mulch and dropping Haymitch. Sorry, not sorry.

Round Four

Shallan Davar (The Stormlight Archive) VS Mibs (Savvy)

This one is a little hard, not because I love these characters, but because I feel sort of “meh” about both of them. They are main characters in both of their books, but I don’t really connect to either of them. Also, their books are so different. Like… they are on opposite ends of the fantasy spectrum. Okay, I think I’m going to drop Mibs and save Shallan only because without Shallan, we wouldn’t have Veil and I love Veil. So, yeah, that’s what I’m doing.

Round Five

Katniss Everdeen (The Hunger Games) VS Scarlett Dragna (Caraval)

When I first saw this pairing, I thought about how different these two characters were. Then, the more I thought about it, I realized that they actually have some similarities. For example, both of them would sacrifice their lives for their sisters and both of them are put into fake dating situations. So now the question is, who to save and who to drop? This is really hard because I love both of these books… but I think I’m going to save Scarlett and drop Katniss. Maybe it’s because it’s been a while since I read The Hunger Games, I don’t know, but Scarlett is a good main character and I really enjoyed reading from her perspective.

Round Six

Legend (Caraval) VS Gandalf (Lord of the Rings)

I was thinking that it might be difficult to place Legend, just because his character is so mysterious in the first book and then you know basically everything about him by the final book. But when he got paired with Gandalf, I laughed out loud. Gandalf takes the cake. Hands down, no questions asked, Gandalf is saved and Legend is dropped. I think that Legend is an interesting character in the first book, but when his identity gets revealed in the second book and we know who he is, he became a lot less interesting to me. And then we have Gandalf, who is just the best wizard anyone could ask for. The classic, the best, you can’t get any better than Gandalf.

Round Seven

Holly Short (Artemis Fowl) VS Mandy (Ella Enchanted)

These are such different characters! I love both of them so much! This one is hard. I love Holly and her resourcefulness, and I love Mandy and her sassiness. Oh, how I love them both! Okay okay, I have to choose one. This hurts my soul, but I’m going to drop Holly *sobs* and save Mandy. Holly I’m sorry I love you!

Round Eight

Raoden (Elantris) VS Vin (Mistborn)

OH NO. OH NONONONONONO. We have Raoden, my favorite character from Elantris, paired with Vin, the main character of my favorite book series. Also, these are both from the same author, which complicates things. I actually don’t know if I can pick. On one hand, I relate to Vin more because she is a sixteen year old girl, while Raoden is a twenty something year old male. On the other hand, I loved Raoden so much from Elantris, he and Sarene are just… yes. Okay. I think… I am going to save Vin and… drop Raoden. I'M SO SORRY PLEASE FORGIVE ME I DO REALLY LOVE YOU I PROMISE.

Round Nine

Clay (Wings of Fire) VS Cinder (The Lunar Chronicles)

This is a weird pairing. I liked both of these characters, but they weren’t my favorites from either series. I relate to Clay more, which is weird because he’s a dragon, but then again Cinder is a cyborg so… Wings of Fire was my absolute favorite fantasy series when I was in middle school, so I’m definitely biased, but I’m going to save Clay and drop Cinder. Lunar Chronicle fans, don’t come for me.

Round Ten

Wolf (The Lunar Chronicles) VS Kaladin Stormblessed (The Stormlight Archive)

Wolf was one of my favorite characters from The Lunar Chronicles, so I was like “yeah he has a pretty good chance” but then Kaladin got picked and I was like, “nevermind.” Not only is Kaladin just awesome as a character, it would be cruel to drop him after everything he’s been through. If you’ve read the Stormlight Archive you know. You know. Kaladin is saved and Wolf is dropped.

Round Eleven

Amy Lennox (The Book Jumper) VS Bilbo Baggins (The Hobbit)

This hurts. This actually hurts. You have Amy, the main character of my favorite standalone, paired with Bilbo, the main character of the most iconic and classic fantasy book to ever exist. I don’t know. I relate to Amy a lot, but Bilbo is just… he’s Bilbo! Okay… I am going to… save Bilbo because if we didn’t have him we wouldn’t have The Hobbit and *sobs* drop Amy. I’m done with this challenge. I want it to be over. This was a terrible idea.

Round Twelve

Hrathen (Elantris) VS Kelsier (Mistborn)

This is so weird, I put two characters from Elantris and two characters from Mistborn into the drawing box, and they ended with each other. We had Raoden and Vin and now Hrathern and Kelseir. Fortunately, this is so much easier than the other one. Hrathen was my least favorite character in Elantris, while Kelsier was probably my favorite character in Mistborn. So, bye Hrathen I’m dropping you, and I’m saving Kelsier. Must I give an explanation? It’s Kelsier.

Round Thirteen

Fish (Savvy) VS Piper (The Girl Who Could Fly)

I like both these books. Serena introduced me to both of them, so they have that in common. It makes me wonder who she would save and drop, (although I have a solid guess) but this is my decision. Piper is awesome, I love her enthusiasm and optimistic attitude, but Fish is just the best brother ever. I am saving Fish and dropping Piper.

Okay, that’s it for the Save One Drop One Challenge. I am scarred and some of the choices I was forced to make have pained me greatly, but I hoped you enjoyed reading about my agony. At least there is that.
