Bookshelf Scavenger Hunt (Lyn Winters Edition)

Updated: Jan 1, 2024

Hey readers! Today I am doing a Scavenger Hunt… with my bookshelf! I have a list of questions and I am going to try and find a book on my shelf that matches the question. Maybe we can have Evelyn, Serena, and Auriel try it too and see how our answers differ!

Find an author’s name or title with the letter Z in it

I expected this one to be a little difficult but it actually was pretty easy. I have The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins, and if you notice, the third letter in her first name is a Z.

Find a classic

Also pretty easy! I went with The Phantom of the Opera by Gaston Leroux. It is probably my favorite classic and I love the cover of the version I own.

Find a book with a key on it

Unfortunately, I don’t think I have a book with a key on it. Or if I do, I wasn’t able to find it.

Find something on your bookshelf that’s not a book

I have multiple items on my bookshelf that are not books, because I like decorating. The one I am choosing today is a model horse with a marking on her forehead that looks like a heart. Her name is Valentine.

Find the oldest book on your shelf

I have a really old copy of Little Women by Louisa May Alcott. I don’t know the exact date or anything, but I’m pretty sure it's the oldest book I own.

Find a book with a girl on the cover

I have multiple books with multiple girls on the covers. The one I am going with is The Girl Who Could Fly by Victoria Forester. The cover is kind of spoiler-y but there’s a girl on it. And she’s flying. Surprise.

Find a book with a boy on the cover

Dave At Night by Gail Carson Levine has a boy on the cover (Dave) climbing a tree. It is a historical fiction, and I don’t read many of those, but it is also one of the few books that has a boy on the cover.

Find a book that has an animal in it

Starlight Animal Rescue by Dandi Daley Mackall has a different star animal every book. In the first one, there’s a horse, the second features a dog, the third one is about a cat and finally the fourth one is also about a horse.

Find a book with a male protagonist

Again, I have a few books with male protagonists, but the one I am choosing today is Eragon by Christopher Paolini.

Find a book with only words on it

The copy I have of Artemis Fowl: The Arctic Incident is pretty bland. The only other thing on the cover other than a metal backdrop and some icicles is the title. I think that's close enough.

Find a book with illustrations in it

One of the few novels I have with illustrations is the Wild Rescuers series by Stacy Hinojosa. I have the first two books and I know she came out with a third one but I have yet to read it. Either way, the books have illustrations.

Find a book with gold lettering

Legendary by Stephanie Garber, the second book in the Caraval trilogy has gold lettering. I love the book covers of all three books in the trilogy, and Legendary is no exception

Find a diary (true or fiction)

I don’t have one. I don’t keep a diary and I don’t have any fictional ones either.

Find a book written by someone with a common name

I don’t really know what qualifies something as a “common name” but I don’t think I have a book with an author whose name is… common enough

Find a book that has a close up of something on it

Emerald Windows by Terri Blackstock has a closeup of an eye. That is green. Because it's like you're looking through an emerald window. You get the idea.

Find a book on your shelf that takes place in an early time period

I think the Cat of Bubastes by G.A. Henty probably takes place in the earliest time period among my books. It's about ancient Egypt, so you can’t get much earlier than that.

Find a hardcover book without a jacket

Again, Little Women by Louisa May Alocott. My version is too old for a dust jacket.

Find a teal/turquoise colored book

I have one, and that is Mockingjay, the last book in The Hunger Games trilogy by Suzanne Collins. Both the dustjacket and the hardcover are blue that I’m going to say is teal.

Find a book with stars on it

I almost picked a different book than the one I ended up choosing, but I wasn’t sure if what I was interpreting as “stars” were just sparkles so instead I’m going with Moon Rising, the sixth book in the Wings of Fire series by Tui T. Sutherland.

Find the longest book you own

I didn’t even have to look for this one. It’s Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson, the first book in the Stormlight Archive series. Way of Kings is 1,280 pages long with one prelude, one prologue, seventy five chapters, an epilogue and nine interludes.

Find the shortest book you own

Seaside by Terri Blackstock is a short novella that I have yet to read.

Find a book with multiple POVs (point of views)

Elantris by Brandon Sanderson has three points of view. Raoden (my favorite), Selene and Hrathern (my least favorite).

Find a shiny book

Savvy by Ingrid Law is the shiniest book I have up to date. I will inform all of you when that changes.

Find a book with flowers on it

The Scarlet Pimpernel by Baroness Orcxzy has some flowers (probably pimpernels) in the corner of the front cover.

Well, that’s it for this Scavenger Hunt! I think that Evelyn, Serena, and Auriel should give it a go too! I’m curious to see how similar our results will be. I hope you enjoyed this as much as I did, and I will be back with another article soon!

Until Next Time!
