Bookish Game: Redeem, Ally, Kill

Hey readers! The past few weeks have been a little stressful for me, so I thought that fun little bookish game would be nice and relaxing. I picked one I thought would be easy, but y'all this was so much harder than I had anticipated. This game is basically Kiss, Marry, Kill but for villains from books. After a random selection of three villains per round, I have to decide which one I would redeem, which one I would ally myself with, and which one I would kill. If you’re confused, that’s okay, it should make sense in a second. Enough with this long introduction, let’s get into it!

ROUND ONE:

Eli from Vicious, Levana from the Lunar Chronicles, President Snow from the Hunger Games

Okay, this one is hard because I feel neutral about most of these people. I mean obviously they are villains that have done terrible things, but they’re not villains that I expressly hate compared to others.

President Snow is terrible and I don’t like him at all, so I think I’m going to kill him. I feel like if Levana’s life turned out differently she would have been a better person, so maybe she is redeemable. That would leave me to ally with Eli which I don’t want to do but I guess I don’t have a choice. I would rather ally with him than the other ones.

ROUND TWO:

AIDAN from the Illuminae Files, Alistair from Hotel Magnifique, Hrathen from Elantris

This one is weird because of two of these characters. AIDAN is an AI that becomes evil as it is trying to learn how to feel human emotions and Hrathen is technically a main character but he antagonizes the other two main characters so I consider him a villain. Also, I just don’t like him.

As much as I don’t like Hrathen, I am beginning to realize that I prefer him to the other villains. I would rather ally myself with him because I can’t stand the other two for more than like three seconds. AIDAN is just a programming so I think that it’s feasible to redeem it, and then I would kill Alistair because he’s an abusive jerk.

ROUND THREE:

Darkstalker from Wings of Fire, Smaug from the Hobbit, the Sorceress from Tress and the Emerald Sea

We have two dragons in this one! And then a weird old lady who places randomly strange curses on people who cross her path. I actually like all of these villains somehow, probably because two of them are dragons and the old witch lady is just fun to read about.

This one is actually super easy. Similarly to Levana, I feel like if things had turned out differently Darkstalker could have been on the good side. He’s redeemed. Dragons in Middle Earth are different from the dragons from Wings of Fire, if I’m not mistaken they are inherently greedy and evil, so I would kill Smaug since he is unredeemable and selfish (aka a pain to ally with). Finally, I would ally myself with the Sorceress because she lives in a rocket ship and I could fly around and play with her cat.

ROUND FOUR:

Ivi from Fairest, Lord Ruler from Mistborn, Allisander from Defy the Night

This one is hard because I have strong feelings about all of these people, but the feelings are all different. Ivi is not a terrible person, she’s just a super annoying brat that’s manipulative and manipulated herself, and I feel bad for her sometimes. The Lord Ruler is a terrible person but he is also quite powerful and I almost have a respect for him because of it. Allisander is just as terrible a person as the Lord Ruler but he’s also just as annoying as Ivi.

After writing that out, I realized that this decision isn’t as hard as I thought it was. Ivi gets redeemed because she was manipulated and insecure, and I think that she could have meant well (at least some of the time, definitely not all the time). Lord Ruler is my new ally because he’s the most powerful out of the three and finally I would kill Allisander because he has nothing going for him.

ROUND FIVE:

James Gritting from Brightwood, Sadeas from the Stormlight Archive, The Phantom from Phantom of the Opera

I know what I want to do for the Phantom (I love Phantom of the Opera lol), but I’m torn over the other two. Both of these men are horrendous people and I could not imagine allying myself with either of them. James is ridiculously creepy, almost psychotic, and Sadeas is one of the most disgusting people in the Stormlight Archive series.

Obviously, I am redeeming the Phantom. Again, if things had been a little different, he might have been an awesome person. Definitely would have been a famous singer of some sort. I think I’m going to kill James because he is just too creepy. I could never possibly ally with him, I would be worried that he would try to kill me in my sleep at night. That leaves Sadeas to ally with, as much as I hate him, I guess he is more tolerable than James. Still don’t like him though.
