Book Characters that Love Books

Hey readers! One of the factors that readers love to see in a character is relatability. Every once and a while, you'll find a character that is completely and utterly unrelatable but (somehow) still lovable, but that is not this post. Some people consider this cheating, but one way that authors try to create a relatable character is by making them a book lover. After all, the book lovers reading the book sure will relate.
Amy from The Book Jumper by Mechthild Glaser
I've talked about this book many times, so I'm not going to go into too much detail, but Amy is the epidemy of a book lover. It's a central part of her character. Amy has a power that many readers wish they had-- the ability to jump into books. She can experience the plot, and even interact with some of the characters. Eventually, this power of hers might be the only thing able to save her and her family from an unknown threat.
Jo from Little Women by Lousia May Alcott
Some people might consider Jo more of a writer than a reader, but I would say that one needs to be a reader in order to be a writer. Jo is definitely one of the most, if not the most, classic book lover in fiction. She brings in so many aspects of her real-life experiences into the book she writes, something I believe all writers do in a way, and it is so much fun to walk with her through those experiences that eventually make up her book.
Elend from Mistborn by Brandon Sanderson
Elend reads books nonstop throughout this whole series. The first time our main character meets him, he's complaining that she's in his reading spot. He reads any book he can get his hands on, even books banned by the government.... well, especially books banned by the government. Not only is he able to recognize the flaws in his society from reading books, but he is also able to come up with solutions. Elend is not a fiction reader like us, but he is still through and through a book lover.
Liesel from The Book Thief
This book takes place in World War II in Nazi Germany, a time and place where books were a touchy subject. Access to any book not written and published by Nazis were nearly impossible to obtain, and highly treasonous if one did obtain it. But that didn't stop Liesel. As the name of the book implies, she became a book thief. If I'm not mistaken, the first book she stole was right off a burn pile. Another classic book lover in fiction.
Starflight from Wings of Fire by Tui T. Sutherland
Starflight has a similar situation to Elend, he's not so much a fiction reader, but he is constantly seen with a book (or scroll, as they're called in this world). He's more of the studious type, if you will. The reason he is on this list is because he was one of the first book loving characters that I read about in fantasy. So, more for nostalgia than anything, but still a memorable character.
Alright, that's all I have for you today! Let me know your favorite book loving characters down in the comments below, maybe I'll make a part two for those characters.
Until Next Time!
~Kamama Deere
I really like this post! Characters that love books are so relatable for me. Brooke Eden from the Lost Heiress by Roseanna White is my definite favorite well-read character, but Elizabeth Bennett is a close second :)
Loved this post! It gave me some books with characters I really really REALLY need to read about now! :D
Fun post, Kamama! I love characters that love books. My absolute favorite book-loving character: Janner. Janner is one of my favorite characters of all time and relatable in so many ways, and definitely an avid reader (and writer!).
